Generative AI is a class of artificial intelligence that creates new content — text, images, code, or audio — by learning patterns from training data, rather than only classifying or predicting.
How it works
Generative models learn the underlying structure of their training data and then sample from it to produce novel outputs. Large language models generate text; diffusion models generate images. Given a prompt, the model composes a response that is statistically consistent with what it has learned.
Why it matters for enterprise AI
Generative AI expanded AI from analysing information to producing it — drafting, designing, coding, and conversing. For enterprises the opportunity is large, but so is the need to ground outputs in real data and govern them, since a fluent answer is not automatically a correct one.
